Extract text from TSB files

A .tsb file is essentially a "black box" container that usually holds one of two very different types of data: a 3D surface model from 3Q Technologies/3dMD scanners, or a compressed accounting backup from the discontinued TAS Books software.
For 3D professionals, this file contains raw surface geometry used in medical imaging or industrial scanning. The friction here is proprietary lock-in; these files are designed for the 3Q Viewer or 3dMD software and are rarely compatible with standard tools like Blender or Maya without conversion to OBJ or STL.
For business users, a .tsb file is often a lifeline containing years of financial history. Since Sage discontinued TAS Books support in 2024, opening these backups is a critical challenge. The good news is that TAS Books backups are often just renamed ZIP archives. You can frequently recover the data simply by renaming the extension from .tsb to .zip and extracting the contents, which usually include the actual database files needed for migration to modern platforms like QuickBooks or Sage 50.
