The .tpe file extension is primarily associated with TracerPlus Desktop, a platform used to develop mobile data collection applications for Android and iOS. These files function as TracerPlus Export packages, containing the full definition of a mobile app project - including forms, logic, and field settings - compressed into a single file for easy transfer between computers or backup. A .tpe file is typically generated when a user selects "Export" within the TracerPlus Desktop environment, allowing the project to be re-imported on a different machine without losing configuration data.
A secondary but significant use of the .tpe extension is for Tepra label designs created with King Jim label printers (popular in Japan). In this context, the file stores vector text, layout info, and barcode data for printing on physical tapes.
Users often struggle with .tpe files because they are proprietary containers that cannot be opened by standard viewers like Microsoft Word or Adobe Reader. They are not "documents" in the traditional sense but rather blueprints for specific software.
