About TOF files
TOF (Prolab Object File) is a legacy data and raster image container. It is primarily associated with Presto! Mr. Photo, an old digital photo management program developed by NewSoft Technology Corporation. These files usually store proprietary thumbnails, cache data, or image objects generated when users imported pictures from early digital cameras and scanners in the 1990s and 2000s. The .TOF format has a major disadvantage: it is a closed, proprietary system. You cannot open it natively in modern operating systems like Windows 11 or macOS, and standard web browsers do not support it. It requires the original, now-obsolete software to read the data. Because it lacks public documentation, even professional tools like Adobe Photoshop cannot decode it. If you find old .TOF files, you need to convert them to standard formats to view your images. The best conversion targets are JPG or PNG for photo thumbnails, or PDF if the file contains scanned documents. Be aware that you will lose any proprietary project data or special layers unique to the original software. Standard online converters usually fail to process .TOF files because they do not understand the legacy container.
