Thinkware records video in this format to handle continuous loop recording and shock-event tagging, but this means native playback on standard media players like VLC or QuickTime often fails. TomTom metadata files are plain text or XML-based but are functionally useless outside the TomTom ecosystem.
If you have a Thinkware .TLV video, your best target format is MP4 or AVI for universal playback. Keep in mind that converting dashcam video might strip out embedded GPS coordinate data, timestamps, or G-sensor metrics. For metadata files, converting to TXT or XML is ideal for human readability.
