Extract text from MEP CAD drawings (TFS)

To convert other file formats to the "MEP CAD Drawing File" file type, you need software like DAITEC Tfas or a similar tool.
The .TFS file is primarily an MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) CAD drawing format created by DAITEC Tfas software. These files store highly specific 3D piping, ductwork, and wiring layouts. Alternatively, a .TFS file can contain hardware settings for Tektronix AFG3000 series function generators, or structural data tables output by CERN's MAD-X (Methodical Accelerator Design) physics software.
Because .TFS CAD files are proprietary and tied to a niche, expensive software ecosystem, they create severe vendor lock-in. You cannot open them natively in popular standard CAD tools like AutoCAD or web browsers. Users outside the DAITEC environment cannot review the drawings without a dedicated viewer or a costly license. The Tektronix and CERN variants face similar limits, as they contain raw data strictly formatted for specific hardware or modeling engines.
To share these designs effectively, you must convert the .TFS file into widely accepted industry standards. The best target formats are DWG or DXF for 2D/3D CAD editing, and PDF or IFC for client review and Building Information Modeling (BIM) integration. When converting, proprietary Tfas-specific parametric data may be lost, rendering complex 3D pipe objects into basic static geometric meshes.
Converting .TFS files is notoriously difficult. Standard online converters fail because the format is closed and strictly undocumented.
