To convert other file formats to the "Building Information Modeling" file type, you need software like DAITEC Tfas or a similar tool.
A .tfs file is most frequently associated with Tfas, a specialized 3D CAD software suite developed by DAITEC for the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) industries. These files contain comprehensive building equipment data, including architectural layouts, HVAC ducting, and electrical wiring diagrams. While Tfas is a standard tool in specific regional construction markets (particularly Japan), the format is proprietary and notoriously difficult to share with stakeholders who rely on standard tools like AutoCAD or Revit.
A common problem for users is interoperability. A native .tfs file cannot be opened directly in standard CAD viewers or web browsers. If you are a contractor or architect receiving this file without a Tfas license, you are effectively locked out of the data. To bridge this gap, users typically convert .tfs files to DXF or DWG for editing in other CAD platforms, or to PDF for simple documentation and archiving.
Note that the .tfs extension is also used by Tektronix test equipment for saving instrument settings (Transfer Function Settings) and by CERN's MAD-X software for particle accelerator data tables. These are incompatible with the CAD format. For Tektronix files, conversion is rarely useful as they are meant to be reloaded onto hardware, whereas MAD-X tables are text-based and can often be viewed in a text editor or converted to CSV for analysis in Microsoft Excel.
