The format is proprietary, meaning you cannot open it in standard web browsers, generic PDF readers, or even popular competitors like Guitar Pro without conversion. For universal sharing, the best workflow is converting .TEF to PDF (Portable Document Format). This locks the visual tablature and standard notation into a print-ready file viewable on any device. If you need to listen to the song or import the audio into a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), convert the internal data to MID (MIDI). For musicians who need to edit the score in other software (like MuseScore or Finale), converting to MusicXML (MyScore.xml) is the only way to migrate the notes and fingering data without re-typing the entire piece.
