About TAT files

The .TAT file extension is highly fragmented and used by multiple unrelated software systems. Its most common use is as a TA1 Interchange Acknowledgement file within healthcare Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) systems like Availity. It is also widely used as a Spectrometer measurement data file generated by optical analysis software such as AvaSoft and Ocean Optics SpectraSuite. Other systems use it as an XML-based PLC animation table file in Schneider Electric EcoStruxure, a filter file in TextAnalysisTool.NET, or a project timeline chart in Chronicle Graphics OnePager.

This fragmentation makes the .TAT format exceptionally annoying for users. Because the file extension is shared across medical billing, optical physics, and industrial automation, operating systems cannot assign a reliable default program to open it. Standard online converters fail because they cannot guess the internal structure. Furthermore, TA1 EDI files are rigidly structured strings of code that are unreadable without a dedicated EDI translator. Proprietary spectrometer data files hide data behind specific encoding that requires the original software to visualize the spectrum graph.

Depending on the exact file type, your conversion targets will change. Spectrometer data should be exported to CSV to be read in Microsoft Excel or OriginLab. The XML-based PLC animation tables and text analysis filters can be converted to XML or TXT.

Standard converters will usually reject .TAT files outright. If our analysis detects underlying XML or text (common in EcoStruxure or TextAnalysisTool.NET variants), you will be able to extract the content instantly.

Convert.Guru analyzes your TAT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TXT, DXD, MC and AGR files.

The TAT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TAT converter.
