About TA9 files
A .ta9 file is a proprietary data archive created by TaxAct, specifically storing an Individual Income Tax Return (Form 1040) for the 2019 tax year. Unlike standard documents, this file acts as a secure, encrypted database containing all your financial inputs, dependent information, and deduction logic required to generate your IRS forms.
Users often attempt to open these files years later to retrieve a copy of their tax return, only to find that .ta9 files cannot be opened by Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, or any text editor. Because the file contains raw data rather than a visual document, there is no direct converter that can turn a .ta9 file into a PDF without the original calculation engine. To view or convert the file, you must open it within the TaxAct 2019 software (Desktop version) and use the internal "Print Center" to export the return as a PDF or print a physical copy. If you no longer have the 2019 software installed, you may need to contact TaxAct support to access your prior year's data.
Convert.Guru analyzes your TA9 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert TA9 file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use TaxAct or similar software from the "2019 Tax Return Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to TA9, try TaxAct or another comparable tool in the "2019 Tax Return Data" category.
The TA9 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TA9 converter.
