About T18 files
A .t18 file is a proprietary data file containing a 2018 tax return created by H&R Block tax software (formerly TaxCut). It stores sensitive financial information, including income, deductions, and personal data required for filing taxes with the IRS.
Because these files are encrypted and formatted strictly for the H&R Block 2018 application, they cannot be opened by double-clicking, nor can they be viewed in Microsoft Excel or standard text editors. A common point of friction for users is attempting to open these archived files years later without having the specific 2018 software installed. While users frequently associate these files with Intuit TurboTax (often attempting to import them), they are native to H&R Block.
Best Conversion Targets:
For Archiving/Viewing: Convert to PDF. This requires opening the file in the original H&R Block 2018 software (or a later version's import tool) and using the "Print to PDF" feature.
For Data Transfer: Export to TXF (Tax Exchange Format) if you need to migrate data to other financial software like Quicken.
Convert.Guru analyzes your T18 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
