A .T05 file is a legacy tax return document storing personal financial data for the 2005 tax year. These files were generated by desktop tax preparation software like Intuit TurboTax, TaxAct, and H&R Block TaxCut. They contain all the user inputs required to calculate taxes, fill out IRS forms, and file state or federal returns.
Opening a .T05 file today is a major challenge. The format is entirely proprietary, meaning it was never designed to be opened outside of the exact 2005 software edition that created it. Modern versions of Intuit TurboTax refuse to open files older than the immediate prior year. You cannot view these files in web browsers, and they require obsolete operating systems like Windows XP to run the original software.
