Convert a file to SXT
To convert other file formats to the "NN-XT Sampler Preset" file type, you need software like Reason or a similar tool.
About SXT files
The .SXT file format is a proprietary patch file used exclusively by the NN-XT Advanced Sampler, a virtual instrument rack device within the Reason Digital Audio Workstation. It saves instrument parameters such as keyboard mapping zones, pitch settings, LFOs, envelopes, and filters. It is primarily used by music producers and sound designers to create playable digital instruments from raw audio samples.
A major disadvantage of the .SXT format is that it is locked into the Reason ecosystem. It requires a paid license for Reason to open or edit. Furthermore, .SXT files do not store any actual audio data. They only contain text-based file paths pointing to external WAV or AIF files stored elsewhere on the hard drive. If you move the .SXT patch file without its accompanying sample folder, the instrument will load empty, resulting in frustrating 'Missing Samples' errors.
Users often need to convert .SXT files to use their sample libraries in other DAWs like Ableton Live or FL Studio. The best target formats are SFZ (a universal open-source sampler format) or NKI for Native Instruments Kontakt. However, standard online audio converters fail because they look for audio waveforms in a file that only holds proprietary parameter data.
Because this is a closed, proprietary format, converting it requires specialized translation tools. Even if direct audio conversion is impossible, we can inspect the file, reveal the internal structure, and help you locate the missing audio sample paths hidden inside the code.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SXT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SXT file to MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, WMA, M4A, AIFF, OPUS, ALAC, APE or WV, you can use Reason or similar software from the "Sampler Instrument Patch File" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MIDI, AAC, TTA, AU, WV, DTS, MID, FLAC, RA, MP3, PCM or WAV files to SXT, try Reason or another comparable tool in the "Sampler Instrument Patch File" category.
The SXT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SXT converter.
