Convert IHT to another file type
To convert IHT projects to another format, you need Interactive Heat Transfer or other Data software.
Convert a file to IHT
To convert other file formats to the "Physics Simulation" file type, you need software like Interactive Heat Transfer or a similar tool.
About IHT files
The .iht file extension is primarily used for project files created by Interactive Heat Transfer (IHT), a finite-difference equation solver software often bundled with heat transfer engineering textbooks (such as those by Incropera & DeWitt). These files function as containers for mathematical models, thermal equations, and simulation parameters used to calculate conduction, convection, and radiation problems.
For students and engineers, the .iht format presents significant compatibility hurdles. It is a proprietary format that strictly requires the IHT software - often distributed on legacy CD-ROMs or restricted academic licenses - to open or edit. You cannot view the equations or graphs in a standard text editor or web browser. Additionally, version mismatches (e.g., trying to open an IHT 4.0 file in IHT 3.0) can cause the file to fail silently. Because the underlying structure is often a ZIP archive, a pragmatic workaround for extracting raw data is to rename the extension from .iht to zip and extract the contents, though this does not reconstruct the logic.
Best Conversion Targets:
For Reporting: Open in IHT and print to PDF to preserve equations and graphs for assignments.
For Data Analysis: Export results within the software to CSV or XLSX (Excel) to manipulate thermal data.
For Inspection: Rename to ZIP to access internal XML or text definitions without the software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your IHT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert IHT file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Interactive Heat Transfer or similar software from the "Heat Transfer Solver Project" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to IHT, try Interactive Heat Transfer or another comparable tool in the "Heat Transfer Solver Project" category.
The IHT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IHT converter.
