About SVL files
The .SVL file extension is highly fragmented and serves multiple distinct purposes depending on the originating software. Most commonly, it functions as a proprietary sound and vibration measurement data file generated by Svantek instruments, or as a site visualization 3D model used in Trimble SiteVision. Additionally, it operates as an XML-based audio analysis session file within Sonic Visualiser. The primary disadvantage of the .SVL format is its proprietary nature and strict software dependencies. Viewing Svantek or Trimble data requires installing their specific, often expensive, ecosystem applications. Sonic Visualiser .SVL files introduce a different problem: they only store metadata, annotations, and local file paths, rather than the audio itself. If you share this file without the original audio track, the recipient will encounter immediate loading errors. To bypass these limitations, you must convert the file based on your end goal. For data analysis and spreadsheet use, extract Svantek data to CSV or XLSX. For sharing Trimble 3D site models, convert to standard CAD formats like DWG or DXF, or generate a PDF for basic visual archiving. For Sonic Visualiser, you must export the annotated audio directly from the software to a standard WAV or MP3. Drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software.

The SVL Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SVL converter.
