Convert SV to another file type
To convert SV files to another format, you need QuestaSim or other Developer software.
Convert a file to SV
To convert other file formats to the "Hardware Description Language File" file type, you need software like QuestaSim or a similar tool.
About SV files
The .SV file extension is most commonly associated with SystemVerilog, a combined hardware description and hardware verification language standardized as IEEE 1800. Engineers use these files to model, design, simulate, and test electronic systems, integrated circuits, and computer chips. Secondary uses for .SV include save game data for popular titles like Stardew Valley or legacy saves for Diablo II, as well as robot system variables for Yaskawa and FANUC systems.
To open and compile SystemVerilog .SV files, hardware developers typically rely on expensive Electronic Design Automation (EDA) software such as QuestaSim by Siemens, ModelSim, or specialized text editors equipped with HDL syntax plugins.
The main disadvantage of .SV files is their highly specialized and environment-dependent nature. SystemVerilog requires complex, proprietary EDA toolchains to compile and simulate. For non-engineers, these files are just raw text that is difficult to read without proper formatting. Similarly, game save .SV files are often serialized or tightly encoded, making them completely unreadable and prone to corruption without the original game engine or a dedicated parser.
To make .SV files accessible or ready for documentation, conversion is highly recommended. For reading, reviewing, or sharing source code, convert to TXT or PDF. If you need backward compatibility with older hardware design synthesis tools, you may need to convert the logic to standard Verilog (V). For game saves, extracting the data to JSON or XML (if supported by a save editor) makes the variables human-readable.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SV file to REM, MSV, RAD, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG or CONF, you can use QuestaSim or similar software from the "SystemVerilog Source Code" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to SV, try QuestaSim or another comparable tool in the "SystemVerilog Source Code" category.
The SV Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SV converter.
