About STT files
The .stt file extension is a fragmented format container used by distinctly different software ecosystems, most notably IBM SPSS Statistics and the discontinued Microsoft Streets & Trips.
For researchers and data analysts, an .stt file is likely an SPSS TableLook file. These are actually XML-based templates that define the visual styling (fonts, borders, colors) of statistical output tables. The main limitation here is opacity: users often receive these files without realizing they are plain text XML under the hood, requiring the expensive SPSS suite just to apply a style. Converting these to XML or TXT allows users to audit the style definitions in any text editor without a license.
Alternatively, if the file originated from older mapping software, it is a Map Template from Microsoft Streets & Trips (discontinued in 2013). These files are proprietary binaries containing route preferences and map markers. Since the software is end-of-life, these files are effectively "digital fossils" that modern GPS apps cannot read. In industrial contexts, .stt files may also be weaving designs for Wonder Weaves CAD software.
Best Conversion Targets:
For SPSS files: Convert to XML or TXT to view and edit the underlying style code directly.
For Map Templates: Conversion is difficult due to proprietary encryption; viewing as HEX or TXT can sometimes recover waypoint data, but often the original software is required to print to PDF.
For Identification: Since meanings vary (including PCSX emulator states and Pulsar thermal settings), converting to TXT is the safest first step to inspect the file header.
Convert.Guru analyzes your STT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert STT file to SRT, SHP, KML, KMZ, GPX, GEOJSON, TOPOJSON, TIF, TIFF, ECW, SID or IMG, you can use IBM SPSS Statistics or similar software from the "Style Template & Map Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert LAZ, KMZ, DTM, CSV, DEM, PRJ, LAS, GPX, DSM, SHP, DBF or KML files to STT, try IBM SPSS Statistics or another comparable tool in the "Style Template & Map Data" category.
The STT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our STT converter.
