An .ssoi file is almost always a personal file that has been locked by the STOP/Djvu ransomware family. In very rare instances, it acts as a temporary download file generated by the SSDownloader application. When a system is compromised by STOP/Djvu, standard documents and media (such as JPG, PDF, EXE, and ZIP) are mathematically locked using AES encryption, and the .ssoi extension is attached to the end of the filename. The primary disadvantage of this format is severe: the file is completely unusable. It requires a specific private key to decrypt, making traditional file access impossible without specialized tools.
Because the underlying data is heavily encrypted, standard file conversion logic fails entirely. You cannot simply convert an .ssoi file to a JPG or PDF using a standard converter because the software cannot read the scrambled binary structure. Instead of a converter, users must rely on dedicated decryption software, such as the Emsisoft Decryptor for STOP Djvu, which can recover files if an offline encryption key was used. If the file belongs to the rare SSDownloader category, it is essentially an incomplete RAR archive typically handled by WinRAR.
