About SPO files
.SPO files are legacy statistical output files created by older versions of IBM SPSS Statistics (versions 15 and earlier). They contain tables, charts, statistical reports, and text output from data analysis. Opening these files natively requires the standalone IBM SPSS Legacy Viewer because they use a proprietary Microsoft Compound binary structure. The primary disadvantage of the .SPO format is its severe obsolescence. Modern versions of SPSS (version 16 and later) switched to the SPV format and completely dropped native support for .SPO files, creating a massive headache for researchers trying to access historical data. Furthermore, the format is practically locked to legacy Windows environments. Users urgently need to convert .SPO files to PDF, HTML, or DOCX to share their findings with colleagues or modern systems. Exporting to these standard formats preserves the visual layout of complex tables and charts. Because this is a closed, proprietary legacy format, standard online converters almost always fail to process it. Often, only the original legacy software can properly read or export the statistical data. We will inspect the file, and if our analysis detects supported underlying text or embedded formats, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible without the original software.
