Extract text from Automotive diagnostic files (SM2)

The .SM2 file is predominantly a Drive Health Management Data file generated by Seagate IronWolf Health Management software. It logs telemetry, drive temperatures, shock events, and overall mechanical health for NAS (Network Attached Storage) systems. Alternatively, .SM2 files are used as Automotive diagnostic data log files by OBD-II scanner software like ScanMaster-2, or as proprietary CAM toolpath part files by SmartCAMcnc.
The main disadvantage of the .SM2 format is that it is strictly proprietary and locked to its specific hardware ecosystem. Users often encounter these files when extracting logs from a NAS drive or trying to share automotive engine fault codes with a mechanic. The format requires highly specific, often expensive, software to decode the data. Without a compatible NAS OS (like Synology DSM) or a licensed copy of ScanMaster, the files are completely unreadable on standard desktop operating systems.
Because .SM2 files contain raw binary telemetry or closed-source toolpath instructions, converting them directly to standard formats like PDF, XLSX, or DOCX using generic online converters will fail. Standard converters cannot interpret proprietary binary data structures and will only output corrupted files.
