About SIMG files
A .SIMG file is a proprietary Synclavier Disk Image File developed by Synclavier Digital. It functions as a complete digital replica of a hard drive, floppy disk, or optical media originally used by the vintage New England Digital Synclavier synthesizer. These files are typically used for archiving rare synth sounds, sequences, and programs, or for loading vintage data into modern software emulators.
This format presents major disadvantages for modern users. The .SIMG file uses a highly proprietary, legacy file system designed for 1980s music hardware. It cannot be mounted natively by Windows or macOS, and standard archive utilities like 7-Zip or virtual drive software like Daemon Tools will completely fail to open it. Users are heavily restricted and often forced to buy expensive emulator software just to access their own archived audio data.
Most users need to convert the internal contents of the .SIMG file to standard formats like WAV or AIF for audio samples, or MID (MIDI) for musical sequences. Converting the entire container into an ISO or standard IMG is usually pointless because the internal file structure remains unreadable to modern operating systems.
Because this is a closed, vintage format, standard online converters fail to process it. Often, only the original hardware or specialized emulator software can properly decode the audio data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - like uncompressed PCM audio chunks - viewing or extraction may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SIMG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The SIMG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SIMG converter.
