About SFA files

The .sfa file extension represents several distinct proprietary formats, most commonly a Stick Figure Animation file used by Stick Nodes Pro. Alternatively, structural engineers use it as a Foundation Analysis Project file in CSI SAFE, while Android developers use it as a Sceneform Asset Definition for augmented reality (AR) applications via the Google Sceneform SDK.

The primary disadvantage of the .sfa format is its rigid ecosystem lock-in. Stick figure animations cannot be natively played in standard web browsers, media players, or social networks. This forces users to keep the specific mobile app installed just to view a simple clip. Similarly, engineering data saved as .sfa in CSI SAFE is trapped behind an expensive, professional software license, making it incredibly difficult to share layouts with clients or external contractors.

To share an animation on the web, you must convert the .sfa file to an MP4 video or an animated GIF. For structural engineers, extracting the internal tables to CSV or exporting the floor plans to a PDF or DXF format is required for practical archiving and sharing. Under the hood, animation .sfa files are often just renamed ZIP archives, and CSI SAFE files are unencrypted SQLite databases. Convert.Guru analyzes your SFA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
