Convert a file to SDC

To convert other file formats to the "Legacy Spreadsheet File" file type, you need software like Apache OpenOffice or a similar tool.

About SDC files

The .SDC file format is highly fragmented, but it is most commonly a legacy spreadsheet created by StarOffice Calc, the predecessor to modern open-source office suites like Apache OpenOffice. However, depending on its origin, an .SDC file could also be a compressed dictionary database for StarDict, a proprietary surveillance video file from Panasonic/i-PRO, an IT cost model archive from IBM, or hardware design constraints from Synopsys.

To natively open a StarCalc .SDC file, users are forced to rely on older versions of Apache OpenOffice or LibreOffice. For dictionary variants, the standalone StarDict application is required, while video formats demand proprietary CCTV viewers.

This extreme fragmentation is a major challenge. Because the same extension is shared by spreadsheets, videos, dictionaries, and digital signatures, standard operating systems constantly assign the wrong default application, leading to "unsupported format" or file corruption errors. Furthermore, legacy .SDC spreadsheets lack support for modern macro security, cloud collaboration, and massive datasets, making them a liability in modern workflows.

Converting your .SDC files is the most pragmatic way to regain access. Drop your file here to analyze and convert it securely right in your browser. For legacy spreadsheets, convert .SDC to XLSX for full compatibility with Microsoft Excel or CSV to safely extract raw data without executing old macros. For archiving, convert to .PDF/A. If you are dealing with a dictionary, extracting the data to TXT or XML is recommended. Note that converting to CSV will strip all charts and cell formatting.
