About SBZ files
The .sbz file extension is most commonly associated with ArcSoft ShowBiz, a discontinued video editing and DVD authoring software. It functions as a project file or project backup (often compressed internally using GZIP) that stores the timeline, transitions, and references to media files used in a video project. Less frequently, it is used for raw video files generated by older Sony camcorders or as a Screen Bean Zip file for the Screenblaster Player.
The biggest disadvantage of .sbz project files is that they are proprietary and deeply tied to ArcSoft. Since this software is obsolete and unsupported, opening these files on modern operating systems is a major headache. Furthermore, a project file does not contain actual video data, only the instructions for assembling it. You cannot upload it to YouTube or play it in a standard media player.
To share or watch the video, you need to export the project to a standard format like MP4 or AVI from within the original software. Standard online converters fail to process these project files because they lack access to the local media assets referenced on your hard drive.
Because this is a closed, proprietary format, direct conversion is challenging. However, you can drag and drop your file into convert.guru to identify its exact nature. We can inspect the file, decompress it if it uses the GZIP structure, and extract readable text, XML data, or embedded media references. If our analysis detects a supported underlying format (like an actual Sony video stream), viewing or conversion to MP4 may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SBZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SBZ file to MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, FLV, WEBM, MKV, M4V, 3GP, OGV, ASF or RM, you can use ArcSoft ShowBiz or similar software from the "Video Project File" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MTS, MOV, RMVB, DIVX, RM, H264, TS, WMV, VOB, MP4, XVID or AVI files to SBZ, try ArcSoft ShowBiz or another comparable tool in the "Video Project File" category.
The SBZ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SBZ converter.
