About SBZ files
The .SBZ file extension is primarily associated with ArcSoft ShowBiz, a legacy video editing suite often bundled with capture cards and Sony camcorders. These files are Project Files, not playable video files. They contain the instructions for your video - timeline edits, transitions, text overlays, and references to the actual video clips stored on your computer - rather than the video footage itself.
Because .SBZ files are proprietary XML or binary containers, they cannot be opened by standard media players like VLC or Windows Media Player, nor can they be directly converted by online tools. A common frustration is discovering an old .SBZ file only to find the original media assets are missing, rendering the project empty. However, some .SBZ files are actually GZIP compressed backups (often named backup.sbz). In these cases, the file does contain your media assets packed inside. You can recover these by renaming the extension from .SBZ to ZIP or GZ and extracting the contents to find your original MPG or AVI clips, which can then be edited in modern software like Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SBZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted CBZ, IO, XBIN and MSCZ files.
The SBZ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SBZ converter.
