A .rwtheme file is a proprietary web design template package used exclusively by RapidWeaver, a macOS-only web building application developed by Realmac Software. These files dictate the visual layout, typography, and color schemes of a RapidWeaver-generated website.
Technically, a .rwtheme is not a single flat file. It is a macOS bundle directory - a folder disguised as a file by the operating system. Inside, it contains a rigid structure of web assets, including CSS, HTML, JS, PLIST (Apple Property List) files, and raster images.
The main disadvantage of the .rwtheme format is strict vendor lock-in. It requires a paid, Mac-only application to open and render. You cannot natively install a .rwtheme file into mainstream CMS platforms like WordPress or Shopify. If you migrate to a Windows PC or transition to another web builder, the file becomes completely unusable on its own.
To salvage your designs, you must convert or extract the .rwtheme into a ZIP archive to retrieve the raw CSS, JS, and image files.
