About RP9 files
The .RP9 file type is a proprietary container format developed by Cloanto for the RetroPlatform ecosystem, most notably utilized by Amiga Forever and C64 Forever. Conceptually, it acts as a digital "cartridge," encapsulating the raw game data (ROMs), disk images (such as ADF, D64, or HDF), XML configuration metadata, and media assets like box art into a single convenient package.
However, this convenience creates a significant barrier for portability. Because .RP9 files are designed for the specific RetroPlayer interface, they often fail to load in standalone emulators like WinUAE or VICE, and are generally incompatible with multi-system frontends like RetroPie or Recalbox. Users are frequently left with valid game data locked inside an unrecognizable wrapper. To use these games elsewhere, the best approach is to convert (extract) the .RP9 into a standard ZIP archive or directly pull out the raw disk images. For archiving or transfer to original hardware, isolating the internal ADF (Amiga Disk File) or D64 (Commodore 64 Disk Image) is essential.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RP9 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert RP9 file to ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, LZMA, CAB, ACE, ARJ or LHA, you can use Amiga Forever or similar software from the "Retro Emulation Package" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert XXE, 7Z, Z, PAK, LHA, DEB, UUE, TAR, LZH, ZIP, PKG or RAR files to RP9, try Amiga Forever or another comparable tool in the "Retro Emulation Package" category.
The RP9 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RP9 converter.
