Convert a file to ROV
To convert other file formats to the "Motion Capture Data" file type, you need software like CSTR Galatea or a similar tool.
About ROV files
The .rov file extension primarily represents a 6DOF (Six Degrees of Freedom) motion capture data file, developed for the academic CSTR Galatea project. In a secondary, enterprise context, it acts as a Report Object Variable file used by legacy Actuate enterprise reporting software.
Typically, specialized academic motion tracking software or Actuate report generators handle these files. However, these formats are extremely obscure and proprietary. For motion capture, .rov files lack the universal support of modern standards like FBX or BVH, making them difficult to share across different 3D animation suites. Actuate report variables require a costly, complex enterprise environment to parse and compile. You cannot open them natively in Windows or macOS, and standard online converters fail because the internal structure is entirely undocumented.
If you need to analyze the data, converting motion capture data to CSV, TXT, or XML is ideal. Actuate files often require conversion to PDF or CSV to become human-readable. Because this file format is highly restricted, it is difficult to open or convert, and often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying text or tabular structure, viewing or conversion to standard formats may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ROV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
FAQ
If you want to convert ROV file to TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD, CRDOWNLOAD, LOCK or PID, you can use CSTR Galatea or similar software from the "Motion Capture Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to ROV, try CSTR Galatea or another comparable tool in the "Motion Capture Data Storage" category.
The ROV Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ROV converter.
