About RMBAK files

A .rmbak file is primarily a backup archive used by the Android application Retro Music Player to store user settings, customized themes, and playlist data. A secondary, older use for this extension is for system registry backups created by the now-discontinued PC Tools Registry Mechanic.

The main disadvantage of a .rmbak file is its highly proprietary nature. It is designed strictly for restoration within its specific parent application. You cannot open it directly on a computer, and standard media players or text editors will not recognize the data. Users frequently encounter restoration errors when moving between different app versions because the internal database schemas change. Furthermore, if you switch to a different music player app, your .rmbak playlists become completely useless.

Under the hood, modern Retro Music Player .rmbak files are just standard ZIP archives containing text or database files. The best workaround is extracting the contents rather than performing a direct media conversion. Recommended target formats include ZIP for extraction, and JSON, XML, or TXT for reading the raw configuration data and playlist paths.

Because this is an app-specific container, standard online converters fail to process it. Only the original software can natively read or export the structured data accurately. If our analysis detects the supported underlying ZIP format, viewing or extracting the embedded configuration files is still possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your RMBAK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
