About RLA files

The .RLA file is predominantly a proprietary landscape design project created using Idea Spectrum Realtime Landscaping. Alternatively, it functions as a Wavefront raster image, a legacy format used to store 3D rendering outputs with auxiliary data channels in software like Autodesk Maya or Cinema 4D.

The primary disadvantage of both formats is extreme incompatibility. Landscape .RLA files are completely locked into a proprietary ecosystem. Clients without the exact Idea Spectrum software installed cannot open, view, or print the design. Wavefront .RLA images are heavily compressed legacy assets that are ignored by default OS image viewers and remain completely unsupported by web browsers.

To share these files effectively, conversion is mandatory. For Wavefront .RLA images, convert them to PNG or WebP for web use, or EXR to retain multi-channel depth data for professional compositing. For landscape projects, users typically need to extract the data into standard PDF or JPG formats to show clients.
