To convert other file formats to the "Automotive ECU Settings" file type, you need software like Vector DaVinci Configurator Pro or a similar tool.

About RFG files

The .RFG file extension is primarily associated with Vector DaVinci Configurator Pro, a high-end engineering tool used to configure and generate Basic Software (BSW) and Runtime Environments (RTE) for automotive ECUs. These files store the complete runtime generation configuration for AUTOSAR projects. Internally, the file is often a GZIP compressed binary container that encapsulates the project's state, parameters, and module settings.

Users typically need to convert .RFG files because they are proprietary binary blobs that cannot be read by standard text editors or version control diff tools. The frustrating part is that .RFG files are locked to the specific version of the DaVinci Configurator and require a valid, expensive enterprise license (often involving a hardware dongle) to open. This makes sharing configuration data with third-party suppliers or debugging without the host software nearly impossible.

For interoperability, the best conversion target is ARXML (AUTOSAR XML), which is the industry standard for exchanging ECU configuration data between different tools. For documentation and review, converting (generating reports) to HTML or PDF is common. For the actual software implementation, the file is "converted" into C and H source code files during the generation process.

Note: A significant portion of .RFG files encountered by non-engineers may instead be RFG Integrator System Databases (legacy financial software) or Lego Racers 2 game archives. If your file is not related to car ECUs, it is likely a game archive that requires a specific extractor to retrieve WAV audio or BMP textures.

Convert.Guru analyzes your RFG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The RFG Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RFG converter.
