Convert RFG to another file type
To convert RFG configurations to another format, you need DaVinci Configurator Pro or other Developer software.
Convert a file to RFG
To convert other file formats to the "Configuration File" file type, you need software like DaVinci Configurator Pro or a similar tool.
About RFG files
The .RFG file contains AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture) runtime generation configurations. It is fundamentally a binary data file compressed with GZIP, used heavily in automotive software engineering to configure basic software (BSW) modules for electronic control units (ECUs).
Typically, this format is created and opened using DaVinci Configurator Pro by Vector Informatik. The main disadvantage of the .RFG format is its proprietary nature. It requires highly specialized, expensive enterprise software to open and modify. If you try to open it with a standard text editor, you will only see unreadable binary gibberish because of the active compression and proprietary schema. The file is highly coupled to the Vector ecosystem, making it completely unsupported by standard web browsers or generic development tools.
To work with the data outside of the proprietary software, you often need to convert or extract the .RFG file to GZ, ZIP, or standard text formats. While exporting to standard AUTOSAR XML (.ARXML) requires the original software, you can still extract the raw underlying files to inspect the internal configuration data.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because it is a closed, proprietary format. Standard online converters fail to process it due to the lack of access to the internal Vector data schemas. However, just drag and drop your file on convert.guru to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Because our analysis detects the underlying GZIP structure, we can often extract the embedded content for viewing without needing a costly DaVinci license.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RFG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
FAQ
If you want to convert RFG file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use DaVinci Configurator Pro or similar software from the "AUTOSAR Runtime Configuration" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to RFG, try DaVinci Configurator Pro or another comparable tool in the "AUTOSAR Runtime Configuration" category.
The RFG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RFG converter.
