About RESULTS files
The .results file extension is primarily used to store computational output from highly specialized scientific and engineering software. Most commonly, it contains gene expression and RNA-Seq transcript quantification data generated by RSEM (RNA-Seq by Expectation-Maximization). Alternatively, the extension is used by Ansys LS-DYNA for structural simulation data (often as an LSAW compressed data file) and by the US Army Corps of Engineers' HEC-HMS for hydrologic modeling output.
These files pose major workflow problems for users. The format is highly dependent on the software that created it. Without the native application - which often requires a costly engineering license or a complex, Linux-based bioinformatics environment - you cannot read the raw data natively. Furthermore, LS-DYNA files are often massive, compressed binary dumps, making them impossible to open in standard spreadsheet applications.
To make sense of the data without the original software, you must extract and convert the file. For data analysis in Microsoft Excel or Python, convert the parseable data to CSV or TXT. If the file originates from HEC-HMS, it is structured as XML, which can be easily transformed for web use or database importing.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RESULTS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert RESULTS file to , you can use RSEM or similar software from the "Scientific & Engineering Simulation Output" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert files to RESULTS, try RSEM or another comparable tool in the "Scientific & Engineering Simulation Output" category.
The RESULTS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RESULTS converter.
