About RAD files
The .rad file extension is a notorious chameleon in the digital world, serving three completely different industries with zero compatibility between them.
- Legacy Documents (Most Common): If you recovered this file from an old Windows archive, it is likely a scanned document created by Wang Imaging for Windows (a predecessor to the modern Windows Photo Viewer). These are essentially proprietary wrappers around TIFF images. The problem? Modern viewers often reject them as "corrupt" or unknown types. Converting these to standard PDF or JPG files is essential for archiving and viewing.
- 3D Lighting Simulation: In architectural visualization and engineering, .rad files are text-based scene descriptions for the Radiance rendering system.
