About QXT files
A .QXT file is most frequently a Quantrix Modeler template, a file format used for high-level multi-dimensional financial modeling and data analytics. Unlike standard XLSX spreadsheets that are limited to two dimensions (rows and columns), Quantrix files store data in matrices that can scale across infinite dimensions. While powerful for complex forecasting, this proprietary format can create major obstacles: you cannot open a .QXT file in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets without first exporting it, and the file may be encrypted or password-protected.
In other contexts, particularly with older archives, a .QXT file is a legacy QuarkXPress template (versions 3.1 through 5). These files contain page layout designs for publishing but are notoriously difficult to open because modern versions of QuarkXPress often require intermediate conversion steps to read legacy formats.
Conversion Advice:
- For Data Analysis: If your file is from Quantrix, the pragmatic goal is to extract the data. Convert or export the file to XLSX (Excel) or CSV to make the numbers accessible, though you will likely lose the multi-dimensional formulas.
- For Printing/Archiving: If your file is a Quark layout, the best target is PDF. This preserves the visual design without requiring the recipient to own expensive desktop publishing software.

The QXT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our QXT converter.
