Convert QTM to another file type
To convert QTM projects to another format, you need Qualisys Track Manager or other Data software.
Convert a file to QTM
To convert other file formats to the "Motion Capture Data" file type, you need software like Qualisys Track Manager or a similar tool.
About QTM files
A .QTM file is primarily a proprietary motion capture project file created by Qualisys Track Manager (QTM). It serves as a container for high-precision 3D coordinate data, 6DOF rigid body tracking, and synchronized analog signals from devices like force plates and EMG sensors.
Because the format is strictly proprietary to the Qualisys ecosystem, .QTM files function as "black boxes" to third-party software. You cannot open them directly in Blender, Maya, or standard media players. This is a key problem for researchers and animators who need to share raw data with collaborators lacking a QTM license.
To make the data usable, you must export it using the original QTM software. For biomechanics research, convert to the industry-standard C3D format. For character animation and game development in engines like Unity or Unreal Engine, export to FBX or BVH. For numerical analysis, the data can be exported to MAT (MATLAB) or TSV (Excel). In rare cases (approx. 9%), a .QTM file may be a time/attendance data file from Q-Time software, or a legacy misnamed Apple QuickTime movie.
Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your QTM file.
If you want to convert QTM file to MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, FLV, WEBM, MKV, M4V, 3GP, OGV, ASF or RM, you can use Qualisys Track Manager or similar software from the "Motion Capture Project" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MTS, MOV, RMVB, DIVX, RM, H264, TS, WMV, VOB, MP4, XVID or AVI files to QTM, try Qualisys Track Manager or another comparable tool in the "Motion Capture Project" category.
The QTM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our QTM converter.
