About QSS files

The .QSS file extension is primarily associated with Qt Style Sheets, a format used to customize the graphical user interface of applications built with the Qt framework. These files function similarly to CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) used in web development but are tailored for desktop widgets like buttons, scrollbars, and dialogs within software like Qt Creator or Autodesk Maya.

While .QSS files are plain text, they pose a specific challenge: they are not recognized by web browsers or standard office software. Users often find themselves needing to convert these files when migrating a desktop application's look-and-feel to a web-based platform or when documenting design systems for non-technical stakeholders. Since the syntax is highly specific to Qt widgets (e.g., QPushButton), simply renaming the file to CSS often results in broken styles.

For web compatibility, the best approach is converting .QSS to standard CSS, though manual adjustment of selectors is often required. For documentation or archiving, converting to PDF or TXT ensures the code remains readable without requiring a development environment. If your file is not a style sheet, it may be a legacy QSR NVivo data project or a Skype cache file, both of which are proprietary binary formats that are difficult to convert without the original software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your QSS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TXT, JPG, QM, QML and QRC files.

The QSS Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our QSS converter.
