About QSA files
The .QSA file extension stands for Quick Skeleton Animation. It is a proprietary 3D animation file format used to store bone structures, keyframes, and character movements for video games. Specifically, it is closely tied to Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - First Assault Online, a discontinued multiplayer shooter published by Nexon. In the game's file architecture, .QSA animations are always paired with corresponding .NMB 3D character models.
Because the format is proprietary and built on legacy engine technology, there is no official support to open or edit these files. Standard 3D animation software like Blender or Autodesk Maya cannot natively read them. Modders and game preservationists face severe challenges when handling .QSA files because the original software development kits (SDKs) and API documentation were never released publicly due to corporate non-disclosure agreements.
Users typically need to convert this file to recover lost game assets and port them into modern engines like Unreal Engine. The ideal target formats for game animations are FBX or GLTF, which universally support skeletal rigging and keyframe data. However, standard online converters will fail completely when handling these files.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because its internal logic - such as quaternions, bone weighting, and skeletal hierarchies - is heavily obfuscated. Often, only the original game engine can properly read or export the data. At convert.guru, we can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported.
*(Note: In completely different contexts, a .QSA file might also be a legacy Qt Script for Applications file used by older versions of Toon Boom Harmony before they migrated to standard JavaScript, or a Quasi-static Results file used in Strand7 finite element analysis.)*
Convert.Guru analyzes your QSA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The QSA Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our QSA converter.
