Convert QRY to another file type

To convert QRY Queries to another format, you need Microsoft Query or other Database software.

Convert a file to QRY

To convert other file formats to the "Database Query File" file type, you need software like Microsoft Query or a similar tool.

About QRY files

A .qry file is typically a Database Query File used to store search parameters, connection strings, or SQL commands. Dozens of enterprise software systems use this extension to save repetitive database searches, including Microsoft Query (often bundled with Excel), SAP Crystal Reports, ArcGIS Pro for crash data systems, and IBM Rational ClearQuest.

These files act as a saved set of instructions telling a database what information to fetch. The main disadvantage of the .qry format is extreme fragmentation. A .qry file created in Visma Business cannot be opened by Corvu Business Intelligence. Additionally, many of these files are saved in proprietary, closed-binary, or complex XML formats, meaning you are locked into an expensive software subscription just to run or edit a simple query. Furthermore, users are often frustrated to discover that .qry files do not contain actual database records - only the instructions to retrieve them.

Users typically need to convert .qry files to standard SQL, TXT, or XML to port the query logic to a different database management system or version-control it in Git. Standard online converters fail completely to process .qry files because there is no universal schema; they cannot guess which of the 15+ different database systems generated the file. Often, only the original software can properly read, execute, or export the data.

Despite these roadblocks, convert.guru is your realistic workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the exact format, view its internal structure, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects an underlying text or XML structure, viewing or extracting the raw SQL statements may still be possible without the original database software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your QRY file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted QRY5, ACCDT, MDA and LCT files.

The QRY Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our QRY converter.
