Convert a file to QDT

To convert other file formats to the "Quantized Bitmap" file type, you need software like QccPack or a similar tool.

About QDT files

The .QDT extension refers to two distinct legacy formats, often creating confusion for users trying to access old archives.

1. Quantized Bitmap Image (Primary)

Based on internal data, the most common definition (approx. 21% of tracked files) is a Quantized Bitmap Image, specifically using Quantized Difference Tones compression. These files are typically generated by QccPack software or associated with the legendary Quantel Paintbox broadcast graphics workstations used in the 80s and 90s.

The Problem: This is a highly specialized raster format designed for efficient storage before modern compression standards like JPEG existed. Because it relies on specific quantization tables (difference tones), standard image viewers like Adobe Photoshop or Windows Photos cannot decode the pixel data, rendering the file unreadable.

The Solution: For archiving and viewing, these files should be converted to PNG (to preserve lossless quality) or TIFF.

2. Quicken Data File (Legacy)

A smaller subset of files (0.9%) are financial data files from Quicken (Versions 3 & 4 for DOS).

The Problem: Modern versions of Quicken use the QDF format. A .QDT file is a relic from the DOS era and cannot be opened directly by Quicken Deluxe 2024 or imported into tools like Microsoft Excel.

The Solution: Financial data should be converted to CSV for universal spreadsheet access or PDF for non-editable record keeping.

Convert.Guru analyzes your QDT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ODT, QDF, QXB, QXD and QXP files.
