Convert a file to QBA
To convert other file formats to the "Accounting Database File" file type, you need software like QuickBooks or a similar tool.
About QBA files
A .QBA file is a QuickBooks Accountant's Copy Work File. It is generated when a financial professional opens a client's transfer file (QBX) to adjust journal entries and reconcile accounts while the client continues working in their primary accounting file.
This format is managed exclusively by Intuit QuickBooks Accountant Desktop and requires an expensive commercial license. It is a highly restricted, proprietary database designed specifically for the Intuit ecosystem. The format has major disadvantages: you cannot open it natively in spreadsheet software, and it enforces strict version locking. For example, a .QBA file created in a 2024 version of the software cannot be opened in a 2023 version.
To share accounting data outside of this environment, the accountant must export reports to standard formats like XLSX or CSV, or generate a QBY change file to send back to the client's main QBW file.
Because this is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters fail to process it. Only the original software can properly read, decrypt, or export the complex relational data inside. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or extracting text from the file may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your QBA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert QBA file to QBW, XLS, XLSX, XLSM, XLSB, ODS, CSV, TSV, TAB, DIF, SLK or WK1, you can use QuickBooks or similar software from the "Accountant's Copy Working Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert WQ1, XLSM, NOTES, QPW, WK3, WB2, WKS, XLSB, 123, XLS, WB1 or XLSX files to QBA, try QuickBooks or another comparable tool in the "Accountant's Copy Working Data" category.
The QBA Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our QBA converter.
