About PXT files
The .PXT file format represents several completely different proprietary data types. Most commonly, it is an add-on transition effect file used by the discontinued Photodex ProShow presentation software. It is also actively used as a project archive file by Microsoft MakeCode, storing block-based programming code for microcontrollers. Additionally, specialized enterprise tools use .PXT files for Prevac XPS spectroscopy data, SoftPro ProForm real estate title data, and Zen Studios Pinball FX game textures.
Because these files serve niche, disconnected ecosystems, they come with severe disadvantages. For example, Photodex officially closed down in 2020, meaning ProShow .PXT files require dead, legacy software to open and are essentially digital orphans. Meanwhile, MakeCode files are locked to the Microsoft web environment. Users typically need to convert these files to recover raw text, convert visual blocks to standard JS or PY scripts, or extract title insurance data into CSV spreadsheets.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because standard online converters fail to parse the conflicting internal structures. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PXT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PXT file to TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, PAGES, TEX, LATEX, MD, MARKDOWN, LOG or NFO, you can use Microsoft MakeCode or similar software from the "Application Data & Project Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert PDF, DOC, ASC, TODO, NFO, MEMO, README, DOCX, JPG, TXT, NOTE or RTF files to PXT, try Microsoft MakeCode or another comparable tool in the "Application Data & Project Storage" category.
The PXT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PXT converter.
