About PXN files
A .PXN file primarily functions as a Pixen pixel art image created by the macOS and iOS application Pixen. It stores multi-layered pixel graphics, color palettes, and animations. Alternatively, it can be an ISIS scanner driver module formatted as an MS-DOS executable by Pixel Translations. Users encounter major hurdles when sharing .PXN image files because the format is entirely proprietary. It requires an Apple-exclusive app to open, and standard web browsers or Windows image viewers cannot display it natively. This creates a severe bottleneck for cross-platform collaboration. To make these files usable across devices, you must convert the .PXN image to standard web formats like PNG for static sprites or GIF for animations, keeping in mind that proprietary layer data will be flattened and lost. The ISIS driver variant is a legacy system file that should never be converted, as doing so will break older scanner hardware. Because .PXN is a closed, proprietary format, it is exceptionally difficult for third-party tools to open or convert it accurately. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PXN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The PXN Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PXN converter.
