About PXG files

A .PXG file is a proprietary gradient preset file used by Pixelmator to store custom color blends. These files allow designers to save and reuse specific gradient transitions within the Pixelmator ecosystem. The major disadvantage of the .PXG format is its strict limitation to macOS and iOS platforms. It is highly proprietary and lacks native support in standard web browsers or competing software like Adobe Photoshop. Because it is a closed format, standard online converters almost always fail to process it into usable web code. Users typically want to convert these presets to standard SVG graphics, CSS gradient code, or GRD files for Photoshop integration. This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because the internal data structure is undocumented, meaning usually only the original Pixelmator software can properly read or export the color data. However, you do not have to be stuck. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PXG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted JPG, EHI, MWD and EMV files.

The PXG Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PXG converter.
