About EMV files

The .EMV extension is a technical chameleon, most frequently representing a TechniData eM-Viewer file. These are not standard static data files; they are typically Self-viewing CAD drawing packages. In many cases, an .EMV file is actually a Windows Executable (.EXE) that has been renamed to bypass email security filters or for internal archiving. This proprietary "lock-in" means you cannot open them directly in standard CAD software like AutoCAD or SolidWorks.

Another common variation is the LabVIEW Configuration File, used by National Instruments software to store instrument settings. These are strictly for developer use and cannot be converted to media formats. A third, rarer legacy format is Huw E-Mail Voice, a highly compressed audio format from the 90s.

The EMV Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EMV converter.
