About PVW files
The .PVW file extension is a highly fragmented format that serves several completely distinct purposes depending on the software that created it. Most commonly, it functions as a Cutter Design Preview file used by vinyl plotting and cutting software like Roland CutStudio or CorelDRAW. In this context, it contains an internal TIFF image structure representing vector cut paths. Other notable uses include 3D visualization data files for PTC Creo View, rheology data presentation files generated by TA Instruments TRIOS (which use a Microsoft Compound structure), and even password-protected vaults created by Kaspersky Lab.
The major disadvantage of the .PVW format is its chaotic, proprietary nature. It is not a standardized format. Because the same extension is used across completely different industries - from custom apparel cutting to chemical rheology and 3D CAD modeling - users frequently encounter frustrating "unknown file type" errors. You cannot open these files in a standard web browser, and generic document viewers will fail to process them. They lock your data into specialized, expensive software ecosystems.
To make the file usable, you need to convert it. If your .PVW is a cutter preview, converting the embedded data to TIFF, JPG, or PNG allows you to view the design mockups universally. For 3D or rheology variants, you usually need to export the data to universal formats like CSV, PDF, or OBJ.
Ultimately, .PVW files are difficult to open and convert because they rely on closed, proprietary encoding. Often, only the original host software can properly read or export the data cleanly. Standard online converters will outright fail. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - like the standard TIFF image in cutter previews or the Microsoft Compound container in data files - viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PVW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PVW file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use CorelDRAW or similar software from the "Cutter Design Preview File" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to PVW, try CorelDRAW or another comparable tool in the "Cutter Design Preview File" category.
The PVW Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PVW converter.
