Extract text from PsyToolkit and Psycle files (PSY)

.PSY files are primarily used as script files for behavioral psychology experiments or as performance profiler data databases. Researchers use them to define stimulus timings and track responses, while developers use them to analyze code execution speeds.

The main disadvantage of the .PSY format is its rigid dependency on the parent application. Experiment scripts often rely on proprietary syntax, and profiler data is usually locked inside a Microsoft Jet Database Engine architecture. This makes collaboration incredibly difficult. You cannot easily share a .PSY file with a colleague unless they install the exact same research software or Integrated Development Environment (IDE).
If you need to share the file, converting script-based .PSY files to TXT or CSV is the best way to distribute the raw logic. Profiler databases should be natively exported to JSON or XML to preserve structured data metrics.
