About PR1 files

The .pr1 extension is primarily associated with MPM Solder Paste Printers, now manufactured by ITW EAE. These files function as machine programs (or "recipes") that dictate how solder paste is deposited onto Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) during the Surface Mount Technology (SMT) assembly process. They contain critical parameters like squeegee speed, pressure, stencil alignment offsets, and cleaning cycles. Because they are proprietary binary or specialized text formats designed for the Benchmark operating software, they cannot be opened by standard text editors or viewers without corrupting the machine logic.

A significant secondary use for .pr1 is within the KNX home automation ecosystem. In legacy versions of the ETS Professional software (specifically ETS1 and ETS2), projects were often split into multiple files (e.g., .pr1, pr2, .pr3) to fit on floppy disks. A standalone .pr1 file is likely just the first segment of a larger project archive. To "convert" or use this today, you must locate the remaining segments and import them into a modern version of ETS (like ETS6) to upgrade the database to the current .knxproj format. Failing to have all parts usually results in an incomplete or corrupt project import.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PR1 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted EMN, PHO, GSM and PR2 files.

The PR1 Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PR1 converter.
