About PQB files
A .PQB file is a comprehensive backup archive generated by the Pleco Chinese Dictionary app, a standard tool for students of Mandarin and Cantonese. These files store your entire learning history, including custom flashcards, user dictionaries, and saved categories.
While .PQB files are critical for data safety, they create significant friction when users attempt to migrate their vocabulary lists to other platforms. Because the format is proprietary to the mobile app, you cannot simply double-click to open it on Windows or macOS. Users often find themselves locked out of their own data when trying to move flashcards to Anki, print vocabulary lists, or edit definitions in Microsoft Excel.
However, the .PQB file is secretly a standard SQLite database in disguise. For most users, the best conversion workflow is to convert the internal tables to CSV or TXT. This allows for seamless importing into Anki (for spaced repetition) or spreadsheet software. Advanced users can rename the file extension to SQLITE to inspect the raw data structure using database tools.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PQB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PQB file to BAK, BACKUP, OLD, TMP, TEMP, ARC, ZIP, TAR, GZ, 7Z, RAR or ISO, you can use Pleco or similar software from the "Pleco Dictionary Backup" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SNAPSHOT, OLD, IMG, RESTORE, ISO, COPY, VMDK, TMP, VHD, BAK, ARCHIVE or BACKUP files to PQB, try Pleco or another comparable tool in the "Pleco Dictionary Backup" category.
The PQB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PQB converter.
