About PPA files
A .PPA file is primarily a legacy Microsoft PowerPoint Add-in file. It stores custom VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) macros, toolbars, and custom commands that extend the functionality of older versions of PowerPoint. It is structured as an OLE2 Microsoft Compound file. Another rarer use is an Archicad Teamwork Project Archive created by Graphisoft Archicad. .PPA files are severely outdated and present significant security risks, as older macro formats are commonly blocked by modern antivirus software and strict corporate IT policies. Modern Microsoft PowerPoint versions require the newer PPAM XML-based format, making legacy .PPA files a major headache to maintain. Furthermore, Archicad archives are massive, proprietary blobs that require an expensive license to open. You cannot traditionally convert a .PPA file into a standard presentation like PPTX or PDF because it contains executable code, not slides. However, developers often need to convert them to PPAM by loading and re-saving them in newer versions of PowerPoint, or they must extract the internal VBA code for manual migration. This file format is notoriously difficult to process without the original authoring software because the code is often password-protected or obfuscated.
