About PN files
A .pn file most commonly contains a Portable Network Graphics (PNG) image. Occasionally, this extension serves as a truncated version of the standard PNG format, generated by older systems or specific network applications. Because .pn is not widely registered as a default image extension, standard image viewers and web browsers often fail to open it directly, forcing users to rename the file or seek a converter.
Beyond raster graphics, a .pn file can also function as a Pinecone Source Code File developed by William Wold. Pinecone is a multi-paradigm programming language that stores variables and functions as plain text, which can be natively compiled into C++. Additionally, the extension was historically used for discontinued Powernoodle session files. Both of these are plain text formats, but standard software will not recognize them automatically without manual association.
You need to convert or rename these files because unsupported extensions break web compatibility and disrupt automated workflows. The best conversion targets are JPG or WEBP for images, and TXT or PDF for source code files. If our analysis detects an embedded PNG image or plain text code, we can seamlessly convert it to a universal, web-ready format.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The PN Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PN converter.
