About PLJ files

The .PLJ file extension primarily represents an Apple Photos Library Journal file used by the Apple Photos application on macOS and iOS. These files function as system transaction logs. They record recent changes, metadata edits, or database updates to your photo library before the system permanently commits them to the main database. A secondary use for .PLJ files is as a 2D nesting optimization project file created by Nirvanatec Plus-2D software. These project files use a Microsoft Compound internal structure to store cutting lists, part dimensions, and sheet layout data for manufacturing. Both variations of the .PLJ format are highly proprietary and tightly coupled with their parent software. The major disadvantage of an Apple Photos .PLJ file is that it does not actually contain your image or video files (like JPG or HEIC). It merely tracks system states. As a result, standard online media converters will fail to process it. Similarly, Plus-2D project files require a specialized software license to open, and standard converters cannot interpret their manufacturing geometry.
