To convert other file formats to the "Telemetry and Sensor Data" file type, you need software like Lansmont TP3 or a similar tool.

About PL3 files

A .PL3 file is a proprietary test event data file generated by Lansmont Test Partner 3 (TP3) systems. It stores high-frequency sensor measurements - such as shock, drop, and vibration telemetry - recorded during physical product or packaging testing. Engineers use these files to analyze impact survivability.

To fully open and manipulate these files, you typically need a licensed copy of the original Lansmont TP3 or TP3 RapidFire software.

The primary disadvantage of the .PL3 format is its heavily closed, proprietary nature. It requires an expensive software license to open, and you cannot view the data in standard web browsers or generic data analysis suites. This creates significant bottlenecks when sharing telemetry results with external clients or engineers who lack the correct software.

The best conversion targets for a .PL3 file are standard data formats like CSV or TXT. Converting to these formats allows the raw sensor data to be analyzed in accessible tools like Microsoft Excel or MATLAB. Alternatively, exporting the graphical test results to a PDF is ideal for sharing unalterable reports.

Because this is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters universally fail to process it. Often, only the original Lansmont software can properly read or export the complex sensor arrays. However, you can just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible using convert.guru. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded text format, viewing or extracting partial raw data may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PL3 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted KDT, BEF, ATP and PL2 files.

The PL3 Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PL3 converter.
