To convert other file formats to the "Encrypted Bitmap Image" file type, you need software like Azure Information Protection Viewer or a similar tool.
About PJPG files
A .PJPG file is a Protected JPEG image created using Microsoft Information Protection. Organizations use this format to apply Digital Rights Management (DRM) to standard JPG images. This restricts who can view, copy, or print the visual data. About 1% of .PJPG files are unencrypted Progressive JPEGs, an older web format that loads in visual tiers.
The main disadvantage of the .PJPG format is strict vendor lock-in. You cannot open protected files in standard image editors like Adobe Photoshop or web browsers. They require an active Microsoft or Azure account and the official Azure Information Protection Viewer. The files act as encrypted wrappers. If you try to open one without the correct credentials, it will simply fail or show an error.
Users typically want to convert .PJPG to JPG, PNG, or PDF to use the image in normal workflows. However, this file format is extremely difficult to open or convert because the payload is secured with AES encryption. Standard online converters fail because they only see gibberish data. Often, only the original software and the authorized user can properly read or export the image. If our analysis detects the rare, unencrypted Progressive JPEG variant, we will instantly convert it to your desired target. If it is an encrypted DRM file, we will identify it for you so you know you need to request standard JPG files from the original sender.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PJPG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The PJPG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PJPG converter.
